| A very fine smiling mask from Rai People from East Nepal ( border with Sikkim). Very precise carving quite characteristic of Rai people, the smiling attitude is only given by the shape of the mouth. Mouth and eyes are surrounded thin carved lines figuring eyebrows and mustache : a very nice sample of the art of Rai people. Very hard wood, very good condition. Note a red painted tika on the forehead. Obvious signs of long use, age is at least over 50 years. Height 8 ¾ inches (22 cm), Wide 5 ½ inches (14 cm).
