| Another complete flat and straight panel figuring one of the two most famous deities protecting Tharu villages in the South West of Nepal. These panels are fixed deeply into the ground and kept in sanctuary either in special huts or in open field. On this one we can see clearly how deep into the ground it was inserted Very impressive signs of deep water erosion, very great age at least 100 to 150 years but very possibly over 200 y for this one considering that it is made with extremely hard wood. Note that the front side is more deeply eroded indicating that it was more exposed to rain possibly in a small shrine against a wall, note also the presence of attached encrusted white lichen a very good index of authenticity Tharu culture is now disappearing on the pressure of modern style of live. The panel sizes are 32 1/2 x 9 1/8 x 2 1/3 inches (82 X 23 x 6 cm) and the weight is about 6 kg. | ||
