A Pair of Arita Plates Swirl Design Edo-Meiji
A very fine pair of Arita plates with matching designs. In the center is a large design of swirling lines in a dark underglaze cobalt blue. Then there is a wide band of sold blue and a thinner line of blue. Around the edges is a lovely design of four birds connected with flowers, berries and vines. On the back there is a loose design of stylized flowers and vines. In the center of the base is an underglaze blue mark, meaning Good Fortune.

There are four spur marks on the base indicating a 19th century dating. We date the pair to the late Edo to early Meiji period, circa 1850s-1870s. The two dishes measure 9 diameter and are 1 deep at the rim. They are both in excellent condition with no chips, hairlines or restorations.
