An interesting print depicting an outdoor performance of a Kabuki play in progress –obviously in front of a group of dignitaries in a pavilion. (Some of the onlookers seem to be distracted or bored by the look of their expressions and posture). The main actor is shown in profile and is wearing a beautiful costume and a flowing wig – perhaps a lion dancer.

The print is by Ikkesai Yoshitoshi, who is more commonly known as Ttsukioka Yoshitoshi, 1848-1892. It is has excellent registration and vibrant colors - one small smudged area in the lower right corner. The print measures 14" by 9 3/8". We date the print to the Mid-Meiji period, circa 1875-1890.
