A handsome Awata Satsuma sake pourer with a fine design of four figures in thickly applied overglaze primary colors - very lovely combination of colors on the fine crackle Satsuma ground - yellow, green, blues, reds. Signed on the side with three character signature. These have been translated as “Yodo,”(the upper right single Kanji character and the two large Kanji letter read as “Shibafuji”. The piece measures 5 1/4" tall and is 3 1/2" diameter at the widest. There is a small early repair to the lip - otherwise excellent condition. I date this one to late Edo to early Meiji, circa 1850 - 1880s.
We photographed this piece against two different back drops - black and beige - to try to get the colors as true as possible.
