| A very fine eighteenth century Chinese bronze of am emaciated lohan or arhat - with his alms cup extended. Measures 3 1'2 high x 2 1/2 " wide x 2" deep. Very interesting details and a fascinating stark expression on the face. Fine patination - and excellent condition. The arhat is "arhat ['ɑːhət] a Buddhist, esp. a monk who has achieved enlightenment and at death passes to nirvana; etymology - from Sanskrit: worthy of respect, from arhati he deserves] - Source: The Collins English Dictionary © 2000 HarperCollins Publishers. | |||||||||||
