Mid Meiji Fukagawa Mukozuke Dish - Unusual
A very unusual shape marks this Fukagawa deep mukozuke food dish - the base is round, graduating to an octagonal second level then graduating to a rounded square shape with fluted edges. Some potter had a ball with this one ! Decorated with underglaze white waves on pale blue ground - five chidori fly over the waves in overglaze enamel colors/ Fine example of top quality Fukagawa. Four character mark of the Fukagawa - see Shiffer, Japanese Porcelain, p. 93, bottom right - supplemented by an impressed Fukagawa mark. The piece measures 5 1/3" in diameterby 1 1/4" deep.
