Fine early Waterdropper-Suiteki-Teapot Shape

Beautiful small Japanese pottery suiteki (water dropper used to moisten the solid ink for doing calligraphy). Shaped as a miniature teapot, this lovely piece has a great dark chocolate brown glaze with splashes of blue/white glaze as highlights - woven twig handle. This beauty measures 2 1/2" tall to the top of the finial and is 2 3/4" diameter at the waist - old museum marks on the unglazed bottom and on the inside of the lid. The tip of the spout has been chipped - but it still pours just fine - otherwise very fine condition. Probably dates from the late Meiji period circa 1900-1920. A fine addition to a scholars desk.
