A Rare and Unusual Bizen Kylin - Meiji
A very rare figural piece of a Kylin from the Bizen Kilns. This delightful figure has a charmingly goofy folksy expression with its dark brown/black applied eyes and its ruffled mane down its back. He stands a full 6 1/2" high and is 7 1/2" long x 4" wide. Unsigned piece - excellent condition - there are two very old chips to the toes - both the right and left foot - otherwise it is fine. Quite rare to find animal figurals in this pottery. I believe it dates from the late Meiji period.
