Two magnificent sake cups (guinomi.) One by a Mashiko potter, another by one of the best Taiwanese artist studios—Tien-Guan-Yao. The vintage Mashiko one is done in traditional ash glaze on brown stoneware, very wabi-sabi. Beautiful green ash glaze dripped and pooled on the bottom of the cup, signature style of Kamoda Shoji. Measured H 2.25”, D 3.5”. There are two very small crazed areas which were repaired, water proofed and not in the least noticeable. This one is not signed so we can’t be sure of the artist, but definitely from the Mashiko region in Japan, known for mingei (folk) pottery. The Taiwanese one is done in white porcelain w/ milky white blanc de chine type of glaze, under-glaze hand painted iron-brush design of pine trees. The previous owner purchased this directly from the artist, and it comes with a signed calligraphy signature. Measured H 2”, D 3”. In excellent/new condition.
