A Kutani teapot with offset handle decorated in the Kaga style with the overglaze enamel in a rust red color – in one reserve we find a floral design – on the other side is a frisky gamboling shi shi dog. The lid has a finely painted ho-o bird covering almost the entire lid. On the base of the handle is the two mark Kutani mark (ku – meaning "nine" and tani – meaning "mountain'.

The teapot measures 2 7/8" high and is 4 3/8" from the tip of the spout to the end of the handle – the main body is 3 7/8" diameter. Excellent condition. We date this piece from sometime between 1910-1940 – there is a possibility that it could date as early as the 1880's.
