| A modern sake bottle - known as a tokurri in Japanese - with a very nice combination of glazes. Over a plain pottery base, the next glaze is a medium tan color - then a thick white glaze is dripped. There are streaks in the tan glaze that show through to the unglazed clay base. The top of the tokurri has a deliberate slant to it so as to make it easy to pour from the bottle. On the base is a single Kanji character that translates as "HAI". The tokurri is 8 1/2" tall and is 3 1/4" diameter at the waist and 2 5/6" diameter at the unglazed base. We believe this piece dates to anywhere from 1920- 1960s. Excellent condition with no chip, hairlines or restorations. | ||||||||||
