A Japanese Mino ware mokozuke in the Shino style shaped as a square bowl with rounded corners. The interior is decorate in a stylized floral pattern and the sides are decorated with a loosely drawn scene of hills and a lake with a boat out on the lake - a geometric band encircles the rim. The dish/bowl measures 5 1/2" diameter and is 3" high - it is in excellent condition. Not signed. We date the piece to the Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1925-1940 - although it is possibly as early at the late Meiji. The primary characteristic of Shino ware is its color. It is a white ceramic with both a white body and a white glaze. It is then decorated in a underglaze design - in this case a greyish blue.
