| A mid 20th century Showa period set of Mukozuke dishes in red lacquer with black lacquer designs in low relief. Each of the dishes has a different motif – different plant and floral designs – iris, thistles, etc. On the base of each there are moths or butterflies in the same black lacquer – with a different number and placement of these on each of the four plates. Mokuzuke were used to serve food during a formal tea gathering. Each dish measures 4 ½” diameter and are ¾” high on their footed base. On the base of one of the dishes is a paper label that is apparently an import stamp for Canada. We date them to the mid twentieth century, circa 1950s. | |||||||||||
