| It is currently the Chinese Year of the Rat – but why settle for an object that only has one of the twelve zodiac animals. Exquisite 19th C. Japanese Satsuma vase with a superb scene on both sides. On one side is a Japanese priest walking along a path with a young boy - on the other we find the twelve animals of the Japanese Zodiac- the dragon, the rat, the tiger, the horse, the pig, the snake and the other six - all beautifully rendered and arranged amongst sprays of cherry blossoms. A wonderful concept that has been most skillfully executed. Measures 6" high. Signed on side. There are a couple of fine hairlines on rim, one 1/4" long and the other 1/8". These appear to have occurred in the making. Otherwise condition is fine. | |||||||||
