| A charming small mokuzuke dish for serving sweets at the tea ceremony. The piece is an example of Seto pottery. It is shaped as a chidori bird - with with a distinct molded eye and a beak as part of the overall shape. Sea plovers (chidori)are a favorite subject of Japanese artists and have been depicted in many media. The center has a freestyle underglaze line design and the edge is in an overglaze brown enamel. The piece measures6" diameter and is 3/4" deep. Excellent condition. We date it to the late Meiji to Taisho period, circa 1919 - 1925. | |||||||
