Shigaraki Jar for Tea Leaves - Chatsubo

Magnificent late Edo period Shigaraki storage jar used as a storage and transfer jar for green tea leaves used in the tea ceremony. This type jar is known as a chatsubo and usually has the four lugs seen on the upper shoulder of this jar as a place to tie strings for carrying the jar. In excellent condition, this chatsubo measures 8 1/2" tall x 6 1/4" diameter at the waist.
