A mid Meiji period Arita blue and white shallow bowl with a scalloped edge and an underglaze design of geometrically stylized vines and flowers on the inside – a simple design of a band of karakusa vines on the upper side of the back of the bowl. The bowl has a few minor glazes flaws in the form of frits on one edge and some tiny spots on the interior where the glaze did not adhere. The bowl measures 5 ¾” diameter and is 2” high at the rim. We date it to the early to mid Meiji period, circa 1870-1890. It is in excellent condition with the exception of the tiny firing flaws.
