Decorated Art Deco Satsuma Bulb Bowl - Taisho/Showa
This is a very nice example of 1920's - 30's Art deco enameled ceramics - a Satsuma blank bulb bowl - measuring 8 3/4" in diameter and 2 1/4" high. After World War I, pottery decorators in the United States could not find European pottery blanks to decorate and turned to Satsuma blanks from Japan. This fine example is beautiful with its sparse design of groups of art deco stylized flowers in the center of the bowl and at four points on the outside rim of the bowl. Unsigned piece. Excellent condition with no chips of hairlines or problems.
