This is a nice double sided steatite amulet of Bes with a
good and interesting provenance.There are some old glue
leavings and an old collection number under the base.

Date: Late Period, 26th - 30th.Dynasty, circa 664-332 B.C.
Material: Steatite
Size: ca. 3,8 cm; c. 1.5 inches
Condition: chipped
Provenance: private family collection C., formed before 1970
(full name will be provided to new owner). The family C.
lived since the 20s till the 60s in a nice colonial style villa in
the district Maadi from Kairo. Maadi was the cultural center of
the european community in Kairo. They were the most famous music
and instrument dealers to that time in Egypt. They were friends with
the egyptologist Rudolf Anthes (1896-1985) who worked in Kairo
and who was later the Director of the Egyptian Museum in Berlin.
He was an important mentor of this collection.
