A very fine Guangzhou enamel snuff bottle of flattened ovoid form tapering to an outwardly flared cylindrical neck, supported on a raised foot rim with slightly recessed base, the copper body finely enameled in the famille rose palate; one face with two scholars at rest, one leaning upon a rock outcropping, set against a well painted landscape extending to the reverse with two more scholars seemingly engaged in conversation and leaning against a gnarled tree trunk, the continuous scene beneath a frieze of pink ruyi heads and a band of yellow, the upper and lower portions of the body with small blue dots, the neck with chrysanthemum-like designs, the base marked "Qian Long Nian Zhi" in blue enamel. 1736-1795. 4.9 cm tall.
