A KESI INSIGNIA BADGE, Ming Dynasty. Worn by a princess or high-ranking noblewoman, woven in muted tones of green, orange, beige and blue with black outline, depicting four long-tailed phoenix, with three large blossoming peonies which separate them against a back-ground of layered clouds and foliage reserved on a gold ground. Image size:16 1/2" x 13" A similar Ming kesi badge with phoenix was included in exhibition, Heavens' Embroidered Cloths-One Thousand Years of Chinese Textiles, Hong Kong Museum of Art, 23 June 1995-17 September 1995, no.290 another similar was sold in Christies New York,16 September 1999 ,no.157 another similar in exhibition, "Chinese Textiles" Spink & Son Ltd, 5 December 1994,page 28 no.24 Image size:16.5" *13".Some small parts loss and been repaired.
