An engraving of the column of Focas in the Roman forum by Luigi Rossini. Rossini was an architect who was unable to obtain any commissions in Rome so he decided to follow in the footsteps of Piranesi. He did a series of engravings of various sites in Rome which he called Le Antichita Romane. Image size measures 13 3/4 inches by 18 inches. The paper has been trimmed to 16x20 inches. Once laid down and with a bit of foxing, but priced accordingly.

The 1996 catalog is devoted to some great Ancient gems, the other covers several ancient cultures. These are duplicates from my collection, otherwise I would never part with them.

Ancient Daunian askos, of a type often referred to as a baby feeder. This is possible but it is also possible that the small spout allowed one to pour a small amount of oil rather than from the larger spout. Restoration to the large spout or filler and the handle on top. Some encrustation remaining. Circa 4th Century BC. Height 10 CM.
