FAIENCE AMULET OF THOT, LATE PERIOD
Rare amulet representing the god Thot with the features of a baboon, sitting with his hands on his knees.

Thoth is represented in two different ways: a man with the head of an ibis or in a baboons form. It is one of the major deities of the Egyptian pantheon considered the god of science, writing, art and wisdom. It reformed the oudjat eye and presided over the weighing of hearts in the judgment of the dead: he noted the outcome of the tribunal hence fixing the destiny and ensuring fairness.
