A fine and very rare 19th century Daoguang mark and period Chinese scholar's lacquered brush washer, the rectangular form vessel supported by a pair of low feet, the exterior covered with a deep burgundy-red lacquer, simply decorated in Chinese taste to one side with finely incised pattern of prunus flowering branches, interior in cinnabar lacquer, underside and feet lacquered black, base incised with the six-character Daoguang reign mark and is of the period.
NOTE : It is most unusual to find Chinese scholar's objects in lacquer form, and bearing the Daoguang period mark.
DATE : Chinese, Qing Dynasty, mark and period of Doaguang (1821 – 1850).
MARK : incised six-character seal mark of Daoguang on center of base.
SIZE : approximately 1 1/2" (3.8 cm) high, 5 1/8" (13 cm) length, 3 1/8" (8 cm) width.
CONDITION : in immaculate overall condition, minor age wear, few tiny pinhead size old nibbles to top rim and a few insignificant and very faint lacquer cracklings as expected, together with small wear to corners of feet only. No other damage or repair noted.
