Two superb and rare 18th / 19th century antique Chinese Peking green-glass overlay covered jars, the well formed bodies tapered gently to the rounded foot, carved through the emerald-green overlay around the sides with three registers of facets over a milky-white ground, the slightly domed original cover with a circular finial and carved with similar facets. The larger jar has a darker green tone. REFERENCE : An almost identical pair of green-glass overlay covered jars, dated to the 19th century, was included in Sotheby's Hong Kong sale on April 1993, Lot 291. Compare also another similar jar, worked in overlay blue-glass, but dated to the 18th century, was included in the exhibition "The Minor Arts of China III" by Spink & Son Ltd, London, April 1987, item 121.
DATE : Chinese, Qing Dynasty, 18th / 19th Century.
MARK : no base mark or signature.
SIZE : larger jar approximately 4" (10 cm) high, smaller jar 3 1/2" (9 cm) high.
CONDITION : both jars in perfect condition, tiny production blemishes noted for accuracy only. No chips, no cracks, and no repairs.
