A superb 19th century Meiji period antique Japanese ivory Shibayama Okimono of a Buddha, the figure finely carved and modeled as sitting on rockwork, his robe lightly incised with floral motifs, the rosary and robes inlaid with varying sizes and shades of mother-of-pearl beads and other colored stones, the figure mounted on an ivory stand and signed in a small circle underneath. Excellent detail work and the ivory has aged to a warm creamy tone. DATE : Japanese, Meiji period, 19th Century.
MARK : incised and stained red signature in a circle to base.
SIZE : approximately 5" (12.6 cm) high.
CONDITION : excellent original condition, no losses to inlays, two small and minor age splits to the back only. No chips or other damages, and no repairs.
