Fine & Rare 19th C Chinese Peachbloom Vase, Kangxi Mark

A fine and rare antique Chinese peachbloom-glazed vase, of slender ovoid shape with high rounded shoulders rising to a trumpet neck, covered overall in a rich dark liver-red glaze suffused with lighter brownish-red tone areas, the glaze stopping neatly above the unglazed rounded foot and burnt to a orange ring in the firing, inside the base inscribed with the Kangxi mark. A later date finely carved wooden stand is included.

NOTE : The present vase, known as "liuye zun" (willow-leaf vase), one of the "ba da ma" (eight great numbers), is among the most sophisticated and distinguished of all Chinese porcelains made for the scholar's writing table. The extremely desirable peachbloom glaze of variable tones and characteristic is found exclusively on the eight classic shapes that make up the set.

REFERENCE : We have sold a similar Kangxi marked 19th century peachbloom-glaze vase, but of smaller size, see Trocadero item #315007 in our Sold Item section.

DATE : Chinese, Qing Dynasty, 19th Century.

MARK : underglaze-blue Kangxi six character mark on base.

SIZE : approximately 6 1/4 (16 cm) high excluding stand.

CONDITION : perfect condition, one small original production firing flaw under the mouth rim, the thin lip is very slightly uneven, all noted for accuracy only. No chips, no cracks, and no repairs.

SHIPPING : Inclusive.
