An extremely rare Chinese ivory buckle. The buckle has a shape of two intersecting circles. The ivory bears a mellow, honey-coloured patina. The decorations are typical of Yuan dynasty, which can be found in many Yuan lacquer covered boxes: see, for example, Lee and Ho, ibid, no. 284; and Watt and Ford, East Asian Lacquer: The Florence and Herbert Irving Collection, no. 3, pp. 44–5. Yuan dynasty, 13th/14th, 5cm x 3.5cm.
