| A profusion of summer flowers bloom alongside meandering waterways in this early 19th century rinpa school screen. Amongst many others the rhythmical arrangement includes peony, Japanese rose, orchid and iris. Extensive use of gold flecks and leaf create a lush and enticing background for the delicate and naturalistic brushwork. The screen has very recently undergone a high level of restoration with great care being taken, amongst other things, to preserve the existing backing paper and brocade. Water damage to the lower fields of the four right panels remains. The low eight-fold screen measures approximately 42 by 157 inches. | |||||||||||||
