| A Nagasaki or Nanpin school tiger by Otomo Gekko. The scroll has been recently remounted. The condition of the painting is fair. The images measures 51'' by 19'' (130 by 49 cm). The scroll measures 82'' by 24'' (208 by 62 cm). Otomo Gekko (fl. late 18th to early 19th c.). Nagasaki painter. Born and worked in Nagasaki. Pupil of Kumashiro Yuhi. Eventually took the name of Chin so his complete name would make the poetic phrase '' to sink into the moonlit lake''. He specialized in paintings of animals. See Roberts p.29. | |||||||||||||
