|A Kano school painting of Daruma dating to the first half of the 18th century, the inscription by a priest from Eikando temple. Painted on paper with ink the work is in good condition. It is presently presented in an unostentatious paper mounting finished with red lacquered buddhist rollers. It would benefit from a remounting though it is certainly not essential. The image measures 47'' by 21'' (120 by 54 cm). The scroll measures 74'' by 26'' (188 by 67 cm). The painting is by Kano Eiryu (fl.1716-1736). Real name Nasu Akinobu. Second son of Nasu Eio. Eiryu studied under Kano Eishuku Morinobu (1675-1724), who was the 9th head of the Nakabashi Kano branch. The inscription is by an as yet unidentified priest of the Eikando temple in Kyoto; likely the head priest of the time.|
