Mori Koga (1791-1864) - Beauties and bush clover
Beauties walking amongst flowering bush clover in the early fall. Painted on silk with ink, color and gofun. The painting is in reasonable condition. One very small and fine blue mark in the top right corner and a water mark at the bottom right. Light creasing. The image measures 43'' by 19'' (109 by 19 cm). The scroll measures 79.5'' by 25'' (202 by 64 cm). Mori Koga (1791-1864). Born in Nagoya. After studying with Yoshikawa Ikei, he focused on the nanga style under the tutelage of Nakabayashi Chikuto (1776-1853), then ukiyoe with Maki Bokusen (1773-1824). It was Bokusen who introduced Koga to the ukiyoe style that he first learned from Kitagawa Utamaro then from Katsuhika Hokusai.
