|A large, landscape format Tale of Genii (Genji Monogatari) painting from an artist of the Tosa school. Early 18th century. The scene has been painted on paper with ink, pigments and gofun. The golden clouds have been created by applying gofun in the moriage style and covering this with leaves of gold. The work is in reasonable condition. It has just been restored and re-backed. The painting is ready to be framed, it is not suitable to be made into a scroll. The image measures 14.5'' by 21'' (37 by 53 cm).|
