| A mid 20th century work by Okumura Koichi (1904-1974). It is titled 'Winter valley'. It is painted with very thickly applied pigment on paper. It is in reasonably good condition. It displays very well although there are some creases beginning to develop in the painting. Despite the painting having a 'futomaki' or large wooden roller for storage, the nature of the materials are still leading to creasing. Beautiful, original mounting, ivory rollers, double wooden storage box. The image measures 22'' by 15'' (55 by 38 cm). The scroll measures 56'' by 21'' (143 by 54 cm). Okumura Koichi (1904-1974). Born in Kyoto, a student of Nishimura Goun. A very well known artist, he became a professor at the Kyoto Municipal University of Art in 1960. He won the special prize at the Nitten in 1946. With Fukuda Toyoshiro and Yamamoto Kyujin he formed the Sozo Bijutsu or the Creation of Fine Art society. He exhibited at Teiten 10, 11, 13 and 15. Shinbunten 1, 2, 3 and 5 and Nitten 2 and 3. | ||||||||||
