Meiji period Scholar's screen
A scholar's screen from the late Meiji period, circa 1890-1920. Painted in the literati tradition on Japanese Hinoki or cypress, the outer wooden frame likely a Chinese hardwood. It is ideal for use in the Sencha world, where Chinese styles and materials are highly respected. The screen is in very good condition. Fully open it measures 38'' by 4'' (96 by 10 cm). The work is signed and sealed Konen. We are presently unaware of the artist's identity.
