| A Kaleidoscope of Japanese life by Okumura Sekiran (1834-1895). This very large painting is dated Meiji 7th, 1874. The condition of the painting is very good. The simple, paper mounting is a bit tired. The image measures 70'' by 37'' (177 by 95 cm). The scroll measures 82'' by 43'' (208 by 109 cm). Okumura Sekiran (1834-1895). Real name Tsugawara Yo. From Owari, Aichi prefecture. He was a student of Nomura Gyokkei (1785-1857) until 1855 when he moved to Kyoto and began studying under the Shijo artist Yokoyama Seiki (1792-1864). He later returned to Owari, opening his own school and attracting many students. Along with being a painter he was a noted Haiku poet and carver. | |||||||||||||||
