| An historically significant moment portrayed with exquisite detail and breath-taking realism. A truly monumental work and one with an unforgettable immediacy and tension. The drama is heightened by the cast of the late afternoon shadows on the stairs of the castle. Brilliant crimson and indigo pigments highlight the samurai lord and his retainer. Dating to the early 20th century the piece may well have been painted for exhibition due to its large size. The signature and seal read Chuko, although we haven't been able to discover any further details. The work has been rendered on silk with ink, pigments and gofun. The scroll is in excellent original condition. The scroll measures 86.5 by 45.5 inches. The image measures 62 by 39 inches. | ||||||||||||
