Archaic Greek Persephone dressed as the Peplos Kore
Archaic Greek votive figure of Persephone. Terra cotta. 5th century BC. She is attired as the Peplos Kore, wearing the heavy wool jacket, the peplos, over her chiton. On her head is the cylindrical crown called a polos. Broken with loss at knees. 4 1/2" x 1 7/8" x 1 1/8" 5 oz. From a Chicago 'Gold Coast' collection, inherited from an old Boston estate.
