A large pine wood cabinet- late Ming or Early Qing
A pine cabinet with two doors in the centre and two shelves on the inside. Shanxi province, late Ming / early Qing, 17th century. Originaly this cabinet was finished in a black lacquer of which only traces have survived. These traces however are of a type of lacquer that support an early date. Other considerations are in the shape of the mouldings, the use of an extra stretcher on the sides and the top protruding to both front as sides. The proportions and constructive choices made show a general refinedness rarely found with later cabinets of this kind. The rail for example holding the door's upper pivots is beautifull in shape and blending in full harmony with the rest of the cabinet. Considering the age, the cabinet is in good condition. Part of the back is replaced as well as one of the ornaments at the front legs. There's a small repair at the upper right corner of the left door. Both shelves and the hardware are original. Dim.: WxDxH 139x62x166 cm Reduced in price from 4.750 euro to 2.400 euro.
