A canvas ancestor painting from Shanxi province, 19th C. The canvas consists of three vertical strips that are joined. Depicted are three generations two of which -the older ones at the top- are dressed in Ming style clothes. The youngest generation at the lower end shows more recent touch ups to the clothes as well as to the chairs and the tile floor. These are not to be regarded as restorations but as maintenance. This is a common phenomenon whitin this type of paintings. Also there is more care to the closer generations than to the long ago ones. There are condition issues: beside stains and darkening from smoke there are repairs to the canvas, fill ins where the old copper green ate away the canvas. Study the pictures carefully to see that all green areas and details are repaired.
Dim.: WxH 129x225cm. Framed this can be reduced to 114x194cm.
