An extremely large and heavy mandau from the Saribas region, Sarawak. The Iban from this area were notorious and feared for their pirate expeditions along the coast. The size of this mandau and the human hair adorning it speak for themselves. Total length 83cm. Lenght of the blade 76cm. Max. thickness 8mm, max. width of the blade 4,9cm. This is a very early mandau that goes well back into the 19th C. or even before as it was collected early -Former collection of Harry Marks, The Netherlands. -Part of a group of mandaus collected by a Dutch missionary in the 1920-1930's.
