| Thonet Mobel. Editor: Alexander von Vegesack, Vitra Museum, 1st Edition, 1989. In the mid 1920s furniture designers discovered tubular steel. This simple discovery produced such famous designs as Marcel Breuer's "Wassily" and Mies van der Rohe's sling seat. Immediately the Thonet company recognized the significance of this new material, and by 1930 became the leading manufacturer and home for the most renowned designers. In the spirit of such a revolution in furniture design, Vitra has rereleased the original Thonet furniture card catalogue, a classic example of 1930s graphics and design-not just a catalogue but a timeless object. | |
