| 1770 Jacques de Seve “LE MAIA” Engraving Stunning antique, professionally framed BIRD PRINT by Jacques De Seve (circa 1770); Natural History Artist – France; Original Etching and Engraving; 1. LE SAIA; Tom. IV. PL. III. Pag. 106.; Actual Print Size: 10” X 7 ½”; Frame Size: 16” X 13 ½”; Condition: Excellent! This is an original Jacques de Seve colored bird etching of LE MAIA, or Maya Bird. This is a beautiful piece that is intricately detailed and rendered. Jacques De Seve was one of the most influential of natural history artists. He was commissioned during the 1740’s by the French Naturalist, Georges-Louis Le Clerc, Comte de Buffon (1707 – 1788) to be the principle illustrator of his book Natural History, or Histoire Naturelle, generale et particuliere, avec la description du cabinet du Roi. There were a total of 36 volumes completed by 1749. I just had this piece professionally framed under glass with a beautiful gilded wood frame. There is no matt which allows the piece to work beautifully in any room and takes on the color or print of the wall on which it is hung. The print is in excellent condition and is part of a series of 4 prints that I am selling. Each is sold separately. All four were purchased in Nice France. | ||
