Yaka D.R.Congo Figure Standing on One Leg
Yaka figure from D.R.Congo carved standing on one leg. Figure carved with deformities are of the 'mbwoolu' society and are used as protective charms. It's arms are bent to rest on the upper chest and displays a well carved very expressive face. Shows traces of camwood and kaolin used to empower it which has become part of the rich patina enhanced by repeated use. It is 10 inches tall and comes from a private New York City collection.
