Mende, Sierra Leone 'Bundu' Helmet Mask
Mende 'Bundu' helmet mask from Sierra Leone are used for initiation rite into the women's Sande society. Beautifully carved mask with simple traditional coiffure. Old, smooth black patina. 14-1/2 inches high. Formerly in the collection of Bill Arnett of Atlanta. Published in exhibition catalog 'African Art: The West Guinea Coast', Agnes Scott College, Georgia, Apr. 27 to May 26, 1975.
