The Tanabe family is now into its 4th or 5th generation of bamboo artists. Chikunsai I coould be said to be on of the fathers of modern Japanese bamboo art in much the same way that Kato Tokuro or Hamada Shoji were to Japanese pottery. He was admitted to Nitten in 1965 and his work is in the Tokyo National Museum and many others. This is a deep and beautiful yunomi by the now famous Takahashi Samon. He invented this glaze technique that he calls kofuki. Beautiful effects. Perfect condition, about 3 3/4" tall signed box.

Tatsu Hiko is fro Okayama -- the heart of the Bizen ceramic art. He has won many awards, and is well known. This mizusashi ( water container for cha no yu ) is about 10" tall ( or maybe a bit taller ), and shows nice firing. There is a small chip to the lid ( see images ) otherwise excellent condition, with signed box and papers.

Tsuboshima Dohei was the number one apprentice to the great Kawakita Handeshi and took over the Handeshi kiln in Otsu. In Japan this piece would sell for $2,000 or more, and Handeshi's pieces sell for 10 time that! This koro would be used as an incense burner for tea ceramony cha no yu. Perfect unused condition, original box, about 5 1/4" tall.

This is a beautiful and large tsubo by this artist, painted with free style leaves and branches similar to Hamada Shoji. It is much nicer than my poor images show. Fine rich deep glaze. About 9 1/2" tall excellent condition, signed box and signed by the artist.

Kato Koemon b 1937, is the son of the famous Kato Juemon ( 1894-1974 ), he changed his name to Koemon in 1975 and this tea bowl dates from that time. A classic and fine Oribe chawan with designs of bell flowers, bamboo and cherry blossoms. Great shape, perfect foot and beautiful pool. At auction in Japan a similar chawan sold for 160,000 Yen a while ago. Large about 5 1/4" diameter, perfect condition signed with signed box.

This beautiful plate was made by the famous potter and teacher Kutani Fujio. He has written several books on modern Kutani pottery and his work is found in many museums including the National museum of modern art in Tokyo. The design features a little bird sitting on a plum branch. Hand painted in multicolor over glaze enamel on porcelain. Excellent condition, signed box, about 9" across.

Wakao was recently nominated to be a Japanese living national treasure ningen kokuho last year. He is a fantastic artist, and make beautiful rimpa shino ceramics. Some of his pieces go through 5 or 6 firings to get the entire design! This superb chawan is the best of his work. It is of flowers and a tree on a grey ( nezumi ) and red ( aka ) shino background. the flowers are done in white ( shiro ) shino and black ( kuro ) wax resist, the tree trunk is gold and silver over black wax resist...

Kato Shigetaka was a very well known and highly respected Mino artist, he is most famous for his Shino works, but also did Oribe, Seto, and even Bizen. His works are in high demand. He was the third son of the famous Kato Tokuro brother of Okabe Mineo. This beautiful plate is about 9 1/2" in diameter and is a classic iris design popular in the Momoyama and early Edo periods. This piece perfectly embodies the feel and look of ancient Japan and is well suited for tea ceremony...

Approximately 15" tall this is one big vase. Tsujimura Kai is the son of Tsujimura Shiro, one of Japan's most respected potters. Kai's talent is equal to his father's!. This beautiful vase evokes images of the moon over trees in winter. Wonderful rich glaze, beautiful lip, perfect condition, just right for cha no yu tea ceremony. Signed box.

Sakai Kobu is a Living Prefectural treasure for Gifu in Japan ( one step away from Living National Treasure or Ningen Kokuho ). His work has won many awards. He is a major innovator in Mino work, especially Shino glazes. This large bowl is no exception, beautiful rich glaze with delicate colors and shading. Almost 12" in diameter, perfect condition, signed box.

This is a pretty simple ring size 10 1/2, silver band with gold and silver settings, the spinel is a beautiful deep blue 8 mm round, and the sunstone carving is dichroic green to red, no schiller no flaws about 3/4" long. I paid about $1000 for the materials, but am selling for wholesale price.
