Boiken Arapesh New Guinea adze shell blade stone cut
Fine and very old stone carved pre-contact ceremonial adze from the Boiken people who live near the Prince Alexander Mountains in Papua New Guinea. It also has the original clam shell blade. Carved with 2 powerful ancestor totem faces on the and the unusual feature of several ancestor faces on teh handle. 24" long, I did have to use a fixative on the piece to keep the heavily encrusted patina from falling off other than that no restorations or repairs. Dates to about 1900, ex. Michael Hamson.
