| OK, so these Swiss pocket watches from the 1890's are not exactly rare, but this one is nicer than most and has some special characteristics that make it more desirable: 1. The case back is typical blued gunmetal but the front and back bezels are silver with a finely patterned motif of swallows ( birds ) hearts and anchors -- possibly this watch was given to a sailor officer by his sweetheart? 2. The dial is glass enamel -- the highest quality and the main hands are also high quality. 3. The cuvette is aluminum, very sought after at the time, aluminum had just begun to be manufactured on a large scale and was often used as an upgrade to watches, jewelry and other items. 4. The movement is nickel with some damascening engraving, most of these are brass with no engraving. Condition: Case: some wear and a couple of dings to the bezels, all pins intact, bow, case, thick crystal and stem all original with light wear. Dial: one very fine hairline just to the right of the moonphase dial near the 4/5, ad a few light scratches over the day indicator dial. Looks mint... moon dial has some wear. Hands are in excellent condition except second hand which has some light corosion. Movement: Very clean near mint looks to be 17 jewel. This watch was completely overhauled ( I will give the name of the person who does my work to the buyer ), and all functions operate very well. email me at wdc@wdc.omhcoxmail.com for more images. | ||
