Australian Aboriginal boomerang Kimberly area fine rare
This is a beautiful and rare piece. Collected in the Kimberleys in NorthWest Australia in the late 1950's or early 1960's it is superbly carved. Fine fluting covers the entire piece and the shape is one of the best I have ever seen. A great display piece. About 21" long. Hardwood with ochre and fine patina. Obtained from an Australian estate collection of several aboriginal items all collected at the same time. One item of note is that "Dalby" written on the back should probably read Derby ( Dalby is in Queensland and is over 1000 miles from the Kimberleys ). Boomerangs from this area are extremely rare and very desirable.
